Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A high-ranking representative stated the attack made him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
